Summer at SEEC · June – August

A summer at the
Smithsonian.

Two inquiry-driven summer programs bring the Smithsonian alive for children during the summer months. Themed, hands-on, and unlike any summer camp they've experienced.

Two Programs

Choose your summer.

Summer at SEEC is offered as two distinct programs, each designed for a specific age group and developmental stage.

Ages 3 years

PreK 3s Summer

An immersive summer experience for three-year-olds. Weekly themes bring a different corner of the Smithsonian to life.

Children spend mornings in the galleries exploring that week's theme (dinosaurs, ocean life, art-making, the cosmos) with SEEC educators guiding inquiry, observation, and play. Afternoons include studio projects, outdoor exploration, and story time.

  • Weekly enrollment (no full-summer commitment)
  • Mornings in the Smithsonian galleries
  • Afternoon studio and outdoor time
  • Themed curriculum, designed by SEEC educators

Ages 5–6 (rising kindergarten)

K Summer Camp

For children entering kindergarten. An intellectually rich, museum-embedded summer that builds confidence, curiosity, and community.

Campers develop extended projects over multiple weeks, returning to collections repeatedly to deepen their understanding. They work in small groups, present their findings, and build the habits of mind that will serve them throughout their school years.

  • Multi-week sessions for deeper inquiry
  • Project-based learning in Smithsonian museums
  • Small groups with experienced SEEC educators
  • Culminating presentations for families
