Family Workshops · Open to All

SEEC is for
every family.

Two workshop programs open SEEC's Smithsonian-based approach to families across the Washington, DC community, no prior enrollment in SEEC required.

About the Workshops

Open doors. Open minds.

SEEC's Family Workshop programs are a core expression of our commitment to the broader community. Long before families enroll in SEEC's school programs, or even if they never do, they can experience what museum-based learning looks like and feels like.

All Ages Welcome

Families Together

SEEC's signature workshop series for families with young children. Sessions are offered in the galleries of the Smithsonian and are designed to be experienced by children and adults side by side.

SEEC educators guide each session with open-ended questions, close observation, and carefully designed activities that meet children where they are, developmentally and emotionally, while engaging the adults who love them.

Sessions are organized around themes drawn from Smithsonian collections: a particular animal, an artwork, a natural phenomenon. Families leave with new ways of looking and new things to talk about.

Infant Investigators

Babies are scientists. They form hypotheses, test them, and revise their understanding based on what they experience. Infant Investigators helps caregivers recognize this innate curiosity and support it from the very beginning.

The series meets monthly in the Smithsonian galleries. SEEC educators and Smithsonian researchers guide sessions that help caregivers understand their infant's development in the context of real objects and real environments. Not a classroom or a playgroup. A museum.

Participants consistently report that Infant Investigators changes how they think about their baby's first year, and how they engage with the world around them.

Inquire About Infant Investigators

"I came to Infant Investigators skeptical, my son was four months old. I left with a completely different understanding of what he was already capable of noticing and learning. We still talk about that first session."
