This November, a team of SEEC educators traveled to the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s Annual Conference to present a full-day institute on museum-based pedagogy for early childhood settings.
The presentation, “Beyond the Field Trip: Using Cultural Institutions as Everyday Learning Environments,” drew educators from school systems in 22 states. The approach SEEC has developed over three decades, using objects, specimens, and primary sources as anchors for inquiry, is gaining traction in school systems far beyond the Smithsonian’s walls.
